Welcome to my site!

My name is Sacia Listenbee, and I am a recent graduate from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  Go Spartans! I feel so incredibly lucky to have studied at such an amazing institution, that prepared me for the challenges and successes that come along with being an English teacher!  I am a member of Kappa Delta Pi, an honor society for teachers, as well as Sigma Tau Delta, an honor society for English majors, and I pride myself on being committed to the excellence of teaching. I come from a family of educators, and perhaps that's the reason I have been bit by the "teaching bug." I am originally from Tupelo, Mississippi, and when I was ten years old, my family relocated to Asheville, NC. After living amongst the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains for around seven years, we made a final move to Charlotte, NC, where I finished up high school at Ardrey Kell High School in the Ballantyne area. (Go Knights!).

Teaching is so much more than just standing in front of learners every day, it's truly growing with them, and exposing them to as many possibilities as I can!  My love of literature stemmed early on from great modeling from my parents that showed reading was important. From a very young age until now, I constantly had a book in my hand, it gave me an opportunity to escape from reality, and see the world through new lenses for a while. More importantly for me, I love to write, and it's a skill I pride myself on. Writing of any kind has been a release for me, and when combined with reading, it is so exciting!

Now, I am human, and English (for the most part) doesn't consume my entire life! I also LOVE music. All kinds, but in particular, I love country music!  I also love sports (my teams are: Colts, Hawks, Braves, and Duke!).  I also love to travel, watch movies, excercise, cook, and just have fun! I've picked up a new hobby in photography, which is so fun to share with the people around me, and oh, and I am a HUGE Shakespeare fan!!!!!

I hope you learn a little bit about me, and my beliefs as a teacher as you browse my site!

All the best,

Sacia Listenbee

What to look for

While you're here, I encourage you to look at my philosophy on teaching.  Yes, I teach English, but it is my goal to give so much more beyond that and create a classroom that has students prepared to be the 21st century learners that they are.  Imagine your student/yourself as a learner, thinker, questioner, and scholar.  This is what I value in the classroom, and this is what I hope you will find that I privlege.  Enjoy your time here!
